Sunset practice at Isla Baru, Colombia with Claire

Inner Jewel is the work of Claire MacDonald, RMT & Certified Yoga Teacher.

A serious injury and challenges with anxiety and depression led me to explore yoga in early adulthood.  Although my practice throughout the years wasn't always constant, yoga has been a thread linking much of my life.  It has provided guidance and transformation.

Deeply curious, I have experienced many yoga traditions. I hold Teaching Certificates in Vijnana Yoga (800 hrs), Ashtanga Yoga (280 hrs) and Yin Yoga (80 hrs) and have completed courses in Therapeutic and Restorative Yoga .  At Kripalu Centre in Massachusetts, I participated in a residential program based on the Classical 8 Limbed Path.

I became acquainted with the  cultural context of yoga through travel to India. There, I  studied the Iyengar tradition and devotional chanting with local teachers.

A passion for health science and biology led me to study the body through massage.  I hold a Diploma in Massage Therapy and have been a Registered Therapist in BC for the past nine years.

I utilize western and eastern understandings of the body and am drawn to the emerging field linking science and spirituality.  My experience has shown me that the body is mysterious and miraculous.  The transformation possible through steady yoga practice and self-inquiry can be life-altering.

My history with teaching has been mostly in urban centres (Vancouver and Victoria ) and for a short time, in the jungle in Costa Rica.  I currently live and work on Gabriola Island, traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation.
